Stratford-upon-Avon

Shakespeare's House

Stratford is about 50 minutes of train trip from Birmingham. It is one of the majour tourist attraction being Shakespeare's birthplace and burial place. The town itself is as if Shakespeare theme park.

To go to Stratford from Birmingham, you need to take train either from Snow Hill Station or Moor Street Station; be careful as it is not from the Birmingham's central, New Street Station. Estimate 10 minutes from New Street to Moor Street Station. The cheap day return ticket costs £6 (correct in Fabruary 2008).

In the photos above and right is the house where Shakespeare was born. The entrance is from the Shakespeare Centre standing next to it.

Nash House
This is another Shakespeare's house, Nash House. This is where Shakespeare died. After his death, his daughter and her husband Mr. Nash lived here. The original house, however, was demolished, and the present one was built later.
Stratford's town scape
Another attractive feature of Stratford is the rows of Tudor houses. They are very well preserved.

Below right is a traditional signage of a pub, and left is a signage of Kebab shop. Funny that in Stratford even kebal sellers become traditionists.

In UK there is more than one Stratford (three, if I remember well). To distinguish this Stratford from the others, it is called Stratford-upon-Avon. And here belog is the view of Avon river.
