Lickey Hills Country Park
Lickey Hills
Lickey Hills Country Park is a huge natural part in the southern suburb of Birmingham.

By bus, you catch No. 62 from the city centre, get off at Rednal and walk. By train, you get off at Barnt Green station, then walk.

As the name indicates, the park encloses several hills and you can have a view of Birmingham and the surrounding area. There also is a golf course.

I visited here in October to enjoy colourful autumn leaves.

Lickey Hills
This is a grass field on one of the hills. A gray flat mass you see in the middle is a panoramic stand from which we can have a view of Birmingham.

I took some pictures of the view, but I don't put them here, as I cannot really say it is an exceptional beauty.
Steak Salad, Lickey Hills
This is steak and mushroom salad that I had for lunch in one of the pubs nearby.

It wasn't so good, and too expensive for £8, but this pub offers 2 for 1 deal and you can get two dishes for the same price. Just you should not come on your own.

As I was asked how I liked the steak, I requested rare, but it turned out to be medium. Why you ask if you cannot do it right? I though.

Anyway, in the adjacent area there is no place where you can get decent meal. Choice is between such a pub food and a packed lunch as many families actually do. You can get light meal also at the Visitor Centre, but you should not expect too much.

Forest, Lickey Hills
Recovering from the disappointment, we went for afternoon walk. The contrast among black trunks of trees, green leaves, and brown fallen leaves was beautiful.

It seems horses and riders are allowed to pass here and we found sometimes horse dungs. The riders don't have to collect the dungs, as the dog owners have to collect dog droppings?

Birch Bracket, Lickey Hills
I found several types of mushrooms in the forest. This is one of them.

According to an information board in the Visitor Centre, this is called Birch Bracket, but a friend who was with me named it "shower mushroom", as it looked like a shower head.

Fly Agaric, Lickey Hills
This is another species, should be Fly Agaric.

I was very excited to have found such a poisonous mushroom as is exactly like the ones we see in Disney movies. I have never seen this before.

We found also other types of mushrooms. It was a pity that we did not know which was edible.

This park is an ideal place for a light walking. Do visit here on a sunny day.
