GOLDEN POND

I returned to Golden Pond in the Arcadian Centre with 5 friends on 21 July 2007. This was the third visit for me.
We might have gone to other places, but one of the participants used to frequent this place, so we decided to try here. As we were many, I could try out more dishes than usual. These are some of things we had.
In this photo (right), interesting is the rice in pot in metal pan. Rice in pot usually comes in ceramic bowl, so this alminium pan style is quite unique. This one had chicken feet, pork rib bits and Chinese green on it (£4.60).

These are dumplings with shark fin and coriander (£2.90).
Telling the truth, I could not recognise any shark fin or anything similar to it, but for this price I did not really expect to find it, so no disappointment. Filling was pork, prawn and fresh coriander, and tasted quite nice. As Dim does not like, no, rather, he hates coriander, I cannot order this when I come with him, but if it happens, I would like to have them again.

This is another dish I always wanted to eat, but hesitated when I was with Dim; Chinese porridge with pork and preserved egg (£4.60).
In the fish porridge I had last time there were not much of fish, but this one had a plenty of pork pieces and sliced egg. Among us there was an English man who had never eaten Chinese preserved egg and one Japanese guy who had not liked it, but both of them said this dish was pretty delicious. It was satisfactory.

These are minced cattle fish balls. I have never seen them as Chinese food, but there are similar things both in Japan and in Thailand. The accompanying sauce was quite strong and hot with a lot of sliced green chili. Golden Pond does not offer chili oil on the table, so I have always felt the lack of chili, but this time, this small dish supplied me with sufficient heat for everything. Happy.
We ordered about 15 or 16 dishes and the bill came around £53, which is ca. £9 per head. This is a bit more expensive than I usually pay when I come with Dim. This was because we ordered many of relatively expensive rice dishes. Anyway, everyone got full and satisfied with the food. This time we were not charged for tea, and it tasted as bad as other free teas.
These are the reports of my previous visits: the first time and the second time
